The annual recognition is one of the highest honors bestowed upon business and financial journalists, recognizing those individuals whose careers have had a long-term positive impact on the landscape of the profession.
In both 2002 and 2001, five journalists were honored, and in March 2000, TJFR Group and MasterCard International paid tribute to 100 Business News Luminaries of the 20th Century. That group spanned the 1900s from muckraker Ida Tarbell and Dow Jones & Company forefather Clarence W. Barron to CBS MarketWatch founder Larry Kramer and Bloomberg News' founding editor, Matthew Winkler. A complete list is available on our Honorees page.
This year's Business News Luminaries were selected from nominations by previous Business News Luminaries honorees as well as other leading business and financial journalists.
"The Business News Luminaries Awards are unique in that they pay tribute to those whose impact on the profession is enduring. Our chief criteria for inclusion is that any additions to this journalism 'hall of fame' be able to stand 'shoulder-to-shoulder'
journalistically with those already inducted," explains Dean Rotbart, executive editor of NewsBios/ TJFR Group, which administers the awards. "These five new Luminaries clearly fit the bill."
In addition to recognizing the five new Luminaries, the reception will pay tribute to TJFR's 16th annual class of 30 outstanding business journalists under 30.
